# Connect an assistant

The Omviq business insights connector lets the Claude assistant answer questions about your own business in plain language: sales, tickets, payments, voids and refunds, customer ratings, the individual transactions behind them, a day's summary, sales by location and cash over and short. It reads the same reports the admin app shows, for the same days, so its answers agree with the screens you already trust. It only reads. It changes nothing in your business.

It is available in production, and everything on this page uses the production values.

## At a glance

| | |
|---|---|
| Quick add | The [Add Omviq to Claude](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=Omviq&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.prod.omviq.com%2Fmcp) link. It fills in the name and address. You add the client ID. |
| Connector address (Remote MCP server URL) | `https://mcp.prod.omviq.com/mcp` |
| OAuth Client ID | `2m4hsmeit8gomogvd1flhgkp3f` |
| OAuth Client Secret | Leave it blank. |
| Sign-in page | `https://auth.prod.omviq.com`. Claude opens it for you, so you never type it. |
| Sign in with | Your admin app login: the same email and password you use at `https://app.prod.omviq.com`. |
| How long a sign-in lasts | One day, then Claude asks you to connect again. |
| Works in | claude.ai and the Claude desktop app. It does not work in Claude Code. |

## Who can use it

- **You need an admin app login that belongs to the business.** You must be a member of the business you ask about. A business you are not a member of is refused by name. There is no way to read someone else's business.
- **Your role decides what you can read.** The connector shows exactly what your role can read in the admin app for that business, and nothing more. Each answer needs the matching report permission.

| Question area | Permission your role needs |
|---|---|
| Sales summary, tickets and average ticket | View Sales Report |
| Payments by method | View Tender Report |
| Voids and refunds | View Voids & Refunds |
| Customer feedback scores | The feedback report permission, and the Customer Feedback capability switched on for the business |
| Individual transactions (the list) | View Transaction Log |
| One transaction in full | View Transaction Detail |
| One day's summary | Read Transactions |
| Sales by location (a corporation) | View Sales Report at the business you ask from, and the corporation sales report permission |
| Cash over and short by shift | View Operator Report |

By default, Owners, Managers and Accountants hold View Sales Report. Owners and Accountants hold View Tender Report, and Managers hold it for their own locations. If your role lacks the permission, the answer says which permission is missing instead of showing a partial figure. Roles and permissions are set in the admin app, under **Settings → Staff & Permissions**.

- **You need a Claude account on a plan that allows custom connectors.** Adding a custom connector is a Claude account feature. On a team plan, whoever administers the Claude workspace may need to allow it first. Check Claude's own help for what your plan includes.
- **There is no separate switch for the connector.** Anyone whose role can read a report can read it through the connector.

## Add the connector

Do this once, in your own Claude account.

**The quick way.** Sign in to claude.ai in your browser, then open [Add Omviq to Claude](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=Omviq&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.prod.omviq.com%2Fmcp). It opens Claude's **Add custom connector** form with the name (`Omviq`) and the connector address already filled in. Then do steps 4 to 6 below: open **Advanced settings**, enter the OAuth Client ID, choose **Add**, then choose **Connect**. Nothing is added until you choose **Add** yourself.

**Or by hand.**

1. Open Claude (claude.ai in a browser, or the desktop app) and go to **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Choose **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter the **Name** `Omviq` and the **Remote MCP server URL** `https://mcp.prod.omviq.com/mcp`.
4. Open **Advanced settings**. Enter the **OAuth Client ID** `2m4hsmeit8gomogvd1flhgkp3f`. Leave **OAuth Client Secret** empty.
5. Choose **Add**.
6. Choose **Connect** next to the new connector.

1. Claude opens a sign-in page at `https://auth.prod.omviq.com`, in Omviq's own colors.
2. Enter the email and password you use for the admin app, then sign in.
3. You return to Claude, and the connector shows as **connected**. Claude lists what it can answer.
4. Start a new chat, make sure the connector is switched on for it (the connectors control in the chat box), then ask a question.

The sign-in page belongs to Omviq. The connector and Claude never see your password.

**How long it lasts.** A sign-in lasts one day and cannot be extended. After that, Claude shows the connector as disconnected. Choose **Connect** again and sign in. Reconnecting takes under a minute.

## What you can ask

Ask in your own words. You do not name a report or a tool, and Claude picks the right one. The connector itself lists what it can answer, and that list grows over time, so check it in Claude when you are not sure.

The kinds of question it answers:

- **Sales.** "How did Karachi Cafe do yesterday compared with the same day last week?"
- **Tickets.** "What was our average ticket this week?"
- **Payments.** "How were we paid this month, in cash and by card, and what is still awaiting settlement?"
- **Voids and refunds.** "How many voids and refunds did we have last week, and how much money did they carry?"
- **Customer ratings.** "What is our average customer rating this quarter?"
- **Individual transactions.** "Show me yesterday's voids, who approved each one and why."
- **One day.** "Give me Tuesday's daily summary. How did gross become net?"
- **Locations.** "Compare my branches' sales last week."
- **Cash drawers.** "Which shifts were short this week, and by how much?"

**Name the business by its name.** Ask "How did Karachi Cafe do yesterday?" and Claude finds the business among your own businesses. The name must match exactly, although capital letters and spaces at either end do not matter. When several of your businesses share that name, or the name only begins some of them, Claude shows you the candidates with their ids and asks which one you mean. It never guesses. You can still name a business by its id. Ask "Which businesses can I see?" to list them first.

**Periods.** Ask about a period such as today, yesterday, this week, last week, this month or last month, or about a date range. Some answers have their own limit on how long a period can be. When one does, Claude tells you.

**How to read an answer.**

- Each answer states its period, what it counts and its units.
- Amounts are held in the currency's smallest unit, such as cents or paisa. Claude converts them for you.
- When a report does not establish a currency, the answer says so instead of guessing.
- If there is no record for a day, the answer gives no figure rather than zero.
- A week runs Sunday to Saturday.
- A built-in comparison for "today" or "yesterday" is the same weekday a week earlier. For any other period, a single custom day included, it is the same number of days just before the period, which is not always the previous calendar week or month. For a like-for-like comparison, ask for both periods.
- Older transactions may not record an order type or a currency. Claude says "not recorded" for those.

**Recipes and guide pages.** The connector also brings ready-made recipes, which are fixed series of questions Claude runs for you, and guide pages that explain every figure. In a chat with the connector switched on, open the **+** (attachment) menu, choose the Omviq connector and pick one. Claude asks for the business if you do not give it. Nothing needs installing, and reconnecting picks up new ones.

**What it cannot answer.** It answers only from the reports your business already has. Claude is told what the connector cannot see, so it should say that it cannot answer rather than guess or treat a missing figure as zero. If an answer looks invented, ask Claude which report it used and for which period.

## Optional plugin downloads

The plugin is optional. It adds a skill: a small package of instructions Claude loads when your question is about your Omviq business. It is written from the same definitions as the connector's own guidance, and it sends nothing anywhere by itself.

- **For Claude.** Download [omviq-claude-plugin.zip](https://help.omviq.com/downloads/omviq-claude-plugin.zip). In claude.ai, go to **Customize → Plugins → Add → Upload plugin** and choose the file. The plugin lists the Omviq connector on its **Connectors** tab. Connect it there if you have not already.
- **For the Cursor editor.** Download [omviq-cursor-plugin.zip](https://help.omviq.com/downloads/omviq-cursor-plugin.zip).

## Privacy and security

- **Only your own businesses.** Every question is checked against your membership, the same check the admin app makes. You cannot read a business you do not belong to, and the connector cannot widen what your role may see.
- **Read only.** It cannot sell, void, refund, change a price, edit settings or change who has access.
- **You sign in on Omviq's own page.** Your password is never given to Claude or to the connector.
- **The sign-in is small and short.** It opens only the connector. The rest of Omviq refuses it, so it cannot change your account or your sign-in settings. It expires after a day.
- **What leaves Omviq.** The figures in an answer, such as totals, counts and periods, go to Claude so it can reply to you. Transaction answers and cash over and short answers also carry staff names (who rang a sale, who approved it, whose shift it was) and what staff typed for a void or an override, up to 200 characters, as the admin app shows them. Feedback comments, customer details and card details are not part of any answer.
- **Remove it any time.** Disconnect or remove the connector in Claude's **Settings → Connectors**.

## If something does not work

| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Claude says the connector is disconnected, or asks you to connect | The day's sign-in ended. Choose **Connect** and sign in again. |
| Claude does not offer a kind of answer you expect, such as individual transactions, a day's summary, sales by location or cash over and short | You connected before that answer was added. In **Settings → Connectors**, disconnect the connector, connect and sign in again, then start a new chat. |
| The sign-in page rejects your login | Use your admin app email and password for production, at `https://app.prod.omviq.com`. A login from a test copy of Omviq does not work here. |
| "Not a member of this business" | The id belongs to a business your login is not in, or it is mistyped. Ask Claude to list your businesses and use the name or id it shows. |
| "No business by that name" | None of your businesses has that name. Ask Claude to list your businesses, or the ones whose names start with the first word, and use the name exactly as listed. |
| Claude shows several businesses and asks which one | Several of your businesses share that name, or the name only begins some of them. Choose one. Claude then uses its id. |
| The answer says a permission is missing | Ask an administrator to give your role the report permission named in the answer. See "Who can use it". |
| "No figure" or "no record" for a day | The report holds nothing for that day. That is not a zero. Try another period. |
| It cannot answer a question | The connector does not cover it. Ask Claude what it can answer. |
| Adding the connector fails in Claude Code | Claude Code is not supported. Use claude.ai or the desktop app. |

If you still need help, tell support which step you were on (adding, signing in or asking), the time and what Claude showed. A refusal names its reason, which is what support needs first.

## For administrators: let a role read through the connector

The connector has no permission of its own. A person can ask about a report exactly when their role holds that report's permission in the admin app.

1. In the admin app, open **Settings → Staff & Permissions** and choose the role.
2. Make sure the role holds the permission for the report: View Sales Report, View Tender Report, View Voids & Refunds, the feedback report permission, View Transaction Log, View Transaction Detail, Read Transactions, the corporation sales report permission or View Operator Report. The table in "Who can use it" says which answer needs which.
3. The person signs in to the connector with their own admin login. Their next question uses the new permission.

To stop a person reading through the connector, remove the report permission from their role, which also removes the report from the admin app, or remove their membership in the business.
