Hold and resume a sale
Set a sale aside when a customer steps away, then pick it up later at the same till or any other till in the store. This works for a sale with no payment yet, a sale with part of the payment taken, and a sale that was left with a payment on it.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Parking a sale needs Enable parked sales, and suspending a sale that has a payment needs Enable suspend / resume. Both are under Settings → Suspend / Resume.
- Recall needs the Recall Suspended Sale permission. Resume needs Create Transaction, the right to take a payment on a sale. Without the permission, the control is greyed out with a sentence saying which permission it needs and where a manager grants it (Settings → Staff & Permissions → Transactions).
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| The customer steps away before paying | Park the sale, serve the next customer and recall it later. |
| The customer forgot their wallet | Park the sale so the cart is not lost. |
| A partial payment is taken and the customer needs a moment, for example to find another card | Suspend the sale with its payments kept, then recall it and take what is still due. |
| It is busy and you need the till free | Set the sale aside in one tap. |
Set a sale aside
Section titled “Set a sale aside”- On the terminal, tap the button that holds the sale. It reads Park while no payment has been taken. Once a partial payment has been applied, the same button reads Suspend.
- If Omviq asks for a label, you can type one, for example the customer’s name. It makes the sale easy to find later.
- The sale is saved and the cart clears, so you can serve the next customer.
Pick a sale back up
Section titled “Pick a sale back up”- Tap Suspended Sales in the bottom navigation. The number on the entry counts every row.
- Use the tabs at the top to narrow the list: All, Parked sale, Suspended transaction, Payment in progress and On hold.
- Find the sale. Its row shows what was Paid, what is still Due, when it Began, who started it and, if a cashier has already reopened it, who Resumed it.
- Tap Recall or Resume, whichever the row offers.
| Row | Badge | What the button does |
|---|---|---|
| A sale with no payment taken, parked from the terminal | Parked | Recall restores the cart on the terminal, ready to add to or pay. |
| A sale with a partial payment, set aside with Suspend | Suspended | Recall opens that sale’s own checkout, with the items locked and the payments already taken shown. |
| A sale with a payment on it that was left without being suspended, for example because the till was locked or reloaded while paying | Payment in progress | Resume opens its checkout the same way. |
| A sale whose card payment is being held while its tax is confirmed | Payment taken — on hold | No button. The row is listed so you can see the money. It cannot be resumed or voided from here, and the row says why. |
At the checkout of a sale with a payment on it
Section titled “At the checkout of a sale with a payment on it”Recall and Resume open that sale’s own checkout. Nothing about the cart you are ringing changes, and you are never asked what to do with it. It stays exactly where you left it.
- The sale’s own items, totals and payments are shown. The items are locked, and the payments already taken count toward the balance.
- Pay takes only what is still due. Each payment is recorded once, even after a retry.
- Suspend sets the sale aside again. Cancel voids the sale and reverses the payments taken. Cancel does not ask a second time, so use Suspend if you only want to put the sale down.
- When you dismiss the receipt, you return to Suspended Sales.
If the checkout does not hear back in time, it says so and offers Try again. Trying again repeats the same request, so it can never open or pay the sale twice. If you leave the screen before the sale has opened, nothing is cancelled or reversed.
A different Recall also exists. Recall on a sent order or an open table check reopens the order so you can add new lines. Find those in the Orders workspace, not in this list. See Make a sale.
What managers can do
Section titled “What managers can do”Managers have a Suspended hub that shows every parked sale and suspended transaction across the store, with each payment shown inline.
| Item | What a manager does | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Parked sale, no payment | Discard it directly. | There is no payment to reverse. |
| Suspended transaction, payment taken | Recall it, then void it with a reason. | The payments must be reversed through the audited void. Voiding needs a reason and manager authorization. |
| Payment in progress | Resume it, then Cancel it at its own checkout. | The cancel reverses the payments taken. |
A manager can also Bulk-clear stale entries that have been sitting too long.
How long a sale stays
Section titled “How long a sale stays”Parked sales, with no payment, are discarded automatically once they go stale. Suspended transactions, with payments on them, are never removed automatically because money is involved. They are flagged for a manager to resolve. The time before a suspended transaction is flagged is the Suspended-transaction TTL (hours) setting.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”When Omviq cannot open a sale, the checkout names the reason and takes nothing.
| What you see | What happened |
|---|---|
| This sale is already paid, so nothing was opened and nothing was taken. Find it on the Transactions screen. | It was finished since the list was read. |
| This sale was voided, so it can no longer take a payment. / This sale was cancelled before it was paid… | It was voided or abandoned at another till. |
| This sale is already being paid at another register, so it was not opened here. | Another register recalled it first. Its row now appears under Payment in progress. |
| This sale was parked again after it was opened, so it was not reopened from here. Recall it again from Suspended Sales. | Someone parked it again after you opened it. Recall it again. |
| This sale’s payment is on hold while its tax is confirmed, so it cannot be opened here. | The sale is on the On hold row. |
| This sale holds a payment, so it can only be reopened from an up-to-date register. Reload this register, then recall the sale again. | This till is running an older version of the app. Reload it and recall the sale again. |
